Counterfeiting is a serious problem that affects many aspects of our lives. The areas affected are very diverse, from identity documents to the food industry, from the traceability of original components to the recycling and waste disposal chain.

They all share a common opportunity on the part of the wrongdoer: the reproduced object is more valuable than the cost to reproduce it. The goal of the Keeper project is to develop a new anti-counterfeiting system that can respond to the newly evolved technological possibilities of counterfeiters.
Overall, counterfeiting market is estimated 3 T$ in 2023. Considering only cards and documents, which implies issues to personal identity and bank accounts, losses worldwide reached 35 B$ this year. The fake goods correspond to about 3.3% of global trade and this value can double in groups of developed countries such as the EU.

To protect the most valuable goods and information and to anticipate counterfeiters, who undermine the trust between seller and buyer, anti-counterfeiting solutions differ according to the functions they provide, the verification methods and technologies.
All anti-counterfeiting technologies once considered invulnerable have been exposed to attacks and hacks over the years. RFID is relatively easy to be spoofed even at a distance, without the owner alert. For modern holograms, the authentication is a naked eye process and only experts can spot the difference between genuine and counterfeit. Even considering biometric technology, many vulnerabilities are well known by the community.
Keeper develops new tracking and anti-counterfeiting technologies based on the latest discoveries in the field of nanostructured materials.
Keeper can be visible or invisible depending on the customers requests and able to adapt to different types of products, preserving not only the identity of the product itself, but also the traceability of its production and marketing chain.
The extreme complexity of counterfeiting, based on the synergy of several innovative technologies, and the ease of integration without changing the characteristics of the original product, make it a possible revolution in European traceability technologies.
SecurityKeeper is characterized by unprecedented security through the adoption of innovative nanoengineered multi-inks code and an extremely selective verification technique resulting from dozens of years of Technical Research. |
FlexibilityKeeper can be customized to meet different requirements, from the level of security to the design of the code and the way of implementing in the production line. |
IntegrabilityKeeper can be easily integrated onto different classes of materials typically used in product and security card packaging. It can be visible or invisible and has extremely low space and processing requirements. |
Environmentally friendlyKeeper, unlike many anti-counterfeiting technologies, does not require the use of materials with high environmental impact (e.g., radioactive tracers, heavy metals, etc.). |
